Studies of the Urinary Excretion of Nicotinic Acid in Diabetic Patients

چکیده
In a recent paper, Banerjee, Ghosh and Bhattacharya (1948) have developed a method using Koenig's (1904) basic reaction for the estimation of nicotinic acid in urine in the presence of sugar. It represents a simplification of' the earlier methods of Melnick and Field (1940), Swaminathan (1939), Harris and Raymond (1939) and several others. An interest in the study of urinary excretion of nicotinic acid having been roused by the paper of Neuwahl (.1943) in which a marked improvement in glucose tolerance of diabetic patients is reported with the oral administration of nicotinic acid, the present investigation was undertaken to study the extent, if any, of interference in the nutrition of nicotinic acid of diabetic patients with pronounced diminished glucose tolerance.

A chemical method of estimation of nicotinic acid in urine in the presence of sugar.
It has been reported that intravenous injection of nicotinic acid produces hypoglycemia in normal humans (l-4). A definite improvement in the carbohydrate tolerance of diabetic patients after administration of nicotinic acid has also been reported (4). It was therefore of interest to study the urinary excretion of nicotinic acid in diabetic patients. In the chemical estimation of nicotinic acid...

Independent studies in two laboratories have led to the development of chemical tests for the early diagnosis of pellagra. Melnick and associates (l-3) reported the excretion in urine of a compound which fails to react like nicotinic acid or amide with cyanogen bromide and aniline (Koenig reaction) unless previously subjected to alkaline hydrolysis. The physical and chemical similarity of the m...

A study was designed to evaluate the normal value of 24 hr urinary calcium levels in the city of Yazd. The average urinary excretion of calcium in a sample of 329 persons randomly selected was 232 mg/day, while patients with a history of recurrent urolithiasis excreted 20X mg/day. There is evidence which shows that more important factors than the amount of urinary calcium exist which influe...
متن کاملEvaluation of Serum Uric Acid and Glutathione Levels in Diabetic Patients and Healthy Subjects
Objective: It is well known that diabetes is one of the main health challenges. According to the evidence presented in recent years by investigators, serum uric acid has emerged as a possible risk factor for diabetes mellitus. The aim of the present study was to compare the mean serum uric acid and the antioxidant activity of glutathione levels in patients with diabetes and the control group. ...

The aim of present experiment was to measure endogenous urinary purine derivatives using feed restriction method, as well as to determine the effect of 4 levels feeding on microbial protein synthesis. The present experiments was conducted by four camels about 326 Kg body weight. The camels were fed by different level of Atriplex leucoclada (AL), including maintenance, 1.25, 1.5 times of mainte...
